Principal-Jon Almeida

Jon Almeida joined Mineral Wells ISD as high school principal in July 2013.  He grew up in East Texas in Carthage. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University, and he began his education career teaching English and coaching football, baseball, and served as Head Tennis Coach.  He earned his master’s degree and Mid-management certification at S.F.A. in 1993.

Mr. Almeida has served as a high school campus principal since 1995 while working in the districts of Lometa, Liberty-Eylau, Carthage, Atlanta, and Tyler. His experiences have allowed him to work in small, medium, and large size districts, both rural and city settings, and even two years at a PK-12 grade level campus.  He has led 1-to-1 technology initiatives, has experience overseeing AVID programs, developed campus alternative education and drop-out recovery programs, implemented campus RtI programs, and conducted student, staff, and adult leadership trainings.  His goal as high school principal is to always utilize every available resource to provide as many opportunities for students to learn and grow in preparation for their futures.     

Mr. Almeida and his wife, Audrey, married in 1990.  Audrey is a life-long educator and has worked as an elementary teacher of grades 1 through 6, as a librarian at primary, intermediate, and high school campuses, and one year as a high school English teacher. She has served MWISD as a 5th grade science teacher, as librarian at Lamar Elementary, and she currently serves as the MWHS librarian.  They have two children, Micah and Sarah, who are both recent graduates from Texas Tech University, and they both still reside and work in Lubbock.
